Segment 1
The Teams
- Two teams of two. Each team is one adult plus one kid: Dad with one daughter, Mom with the other.
- The pairing flip: one coin decides everything. The youngest flips it: heads puts her on Team Dad, tails puts her on Team Mom. Her sister joins the other parent. No re-flips, no negotiations.
- Every team announces a team name before shopping. No name, no cart. Free to steal: The Flavor Firm, Whisk Takers, Seasoned Professionals, The Gravy Train.
- Encouraged: 30-second confessional cam videos on a phone before cooking and at the halfway mark. Trash talk is legal and celebrated.
Segment 2
The Judge
- The Judge holds total and final authority. No appeals, no recounts, no lobbying the bench.
- He tastes everything, comments out loud like he is on TV, and delivers scores with maximum drama. Long pauses required.
- Bribing the Judge is allowed. It has never once worked, but it is allowed.
- The Judge lifts no finger during the cook. He watches, narrates, and stirs the pot only verbally.
Segment 3
The Shopping Sprint
- Receipt is your proof. Go over by even a dollar and the most expensive item on your receipt is disqualified from the dish.
- Same store, both teams, timer starts at the door. Late to checkout costs 5 points.
- Phones allowed for recipes and math. No calling the Judge for hints.
Free pantry, no charge against the budget: salt, pepper, butter, oil, flour, sugar, and any spice already in the cabinet. Everything else comes out of your $50.
Segment 4
The Cook
60:00
Hands on to plates up
- Hard stop at the timer. When it sounds, hands in the air like it's Chopped.
- Each team plates one entree and one dessert. One beautiful judge's plate of each, plus enough for the whole family to eat after.
- Kids cook for real. Knives and stove only with your adult teammate right there. Adults cannot take over; if the Judge sees one person doing everything, Teamwork points evaporate.
- One oven, one stovetop: teams negotiate like professionals. The Judge settles disputes instantly and enjoys it too much.
- Sabotage is illegal. Psychological warfare (loud confidence, suspicious sniffing of the other team's pot) is fine.
Segment 5
The Twist
At the 30-minute mark the Judge may draw one twist. It applies to both teams.
- Your dish must now include something citrus.
- Swap one team member for 5 minutes.
- The grocery swap: each team picks one item from the other team's shopping haul, and the two items trade teams. The Judge can veto any pick, and whatever you receive must show up on a plate where the Judge can taste it.
- Plating must include a sauce drizzle or a garnish.
- Mercy card: no twist, carry on.
Segment 6
Judge's Score Card
Penalties: minus 5 per minute late plating, minus 5 for late checkout, budget overage disqualifies your priciest ingredient, minus 10 for an adult takeover.
Segment 7
The Stakes
- Champions: the title of Higgins Cook-Off Champions, the trophy walk, they pick the next family movie or dessert run, and they are fully exempt from all cleanup. Not one dish, not one pan.
- Runners-up: every dish, pot, and pan from both kitchens, washed and put away tonight, while the champions supervise from the couch.
House Rules
Everybody eats everything together when judging ends. Both meals hit the table.
The Judge gives every cook one specific compliment before scores are read.
Full send only. Run it, laugh at it, plate it proud.
If you don't quit, you win.
